Our Core Values

God’s Word

We are passionate about the truth contained in the Holy Bible. We believe the books of the Old and New Testaments reveal God, His plan of salvation and how our lives are best lived. We believe it is without error in all it affirms. “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

Great Commission

We believe God loves the whole world and isn’t willing that any should perish. (Matthew 28:19-20 & 2 Peter 3:9) Therefore we are committed to ministries and missions that bring people into a transforming relationship with the Living God.

We believe spiritual growth is expected by Christ. Therefore we devote ourselves to fully understanding and obeying God’s Word and leading others to that same knowledge. “If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine and you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:31-32) “And the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful persons who will be able to teach others also.” (2 Timothy 2:2)

As a church we are convinced of the power of prayer. It is a central component of our daily lives and our corporate worship. We believe conversations with God can change things, but more importantly can change us. “The effective prayer of a righteous person can accomplish much.” (James 5:16)

“To whom much is given, much shall be required.” (Luke 12:48) “God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) We believe we honor God when we give. As a result we embrace every opportunity to generously support the ministry of Christ wherever it is needed.

Serving others

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…” (Matthew 20:28) We are dedicated to meet people’s needs in Jesus’ name. We feel privileged to be Christ’s hands extended to serve our church, our community and beyond. “Faith without works is dead.” (James 2:26)

Unconditional love and acceptance

“God demonstrated His own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) We believe the highest expression of God’s character is found in the way we treat those around us. We are committed to loving and accepting people where they are and helping them discover the person God has created them to be.

Creativity and innovation

Scripture affirms God as Creator. “…all things have been created by Him…” (Colossians 1:16) Being made in His likeness, we too, are creative beings. (Genesis 1:27) At Woodlawn we believe we reflect God’s nature by being creative and innovative. We embrace the challenges of putting new wine into new wineskins. We will never compromise the Message, but we are willing to try new venues, different styles and unique approaches to ministry to reach those far from God and to assist others in growing closer to Him.

Nature teaches us that God loves diversity. The many species of trees, flowers, and animals give evidence to this truth. We believe God has filled the world with variety and uniqueness (ethnic, cultural, linguistic, gender, chronological) to demonstrate the beauty of His coming Kingdom. At Woodlawn we are committed to embrace those things which reflect the multi-dimensional aspects of His Kingdom. “I looked and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues…” (Revelation 7:9)

“We are Christ’s ambassadors.” (2 Corinthians 5:20) We feel we represent God most effectively when we demonstrate Christlikeness in all we do. Therefore, we are committed to minister with honesty, accountability, reliability, transparency and good stewardship.
